Biography

Ian Hart was born in Sacramento, California. Ian first painted with marbles at Nikki and Tiny's on Alice Street in Davis. Ian counts among his formative aesthetic experiences: listening to Charles Amirkhanian host The Morning Concert on KPFA radio and hours spent scrutinizing his father's cactus collection. A continuing appreciation of the beauty of organic and biological structures informs his drawing work today.

After leaving his home town of Davis, California, Ian lived for two years in Los Angeles where he worked with the terrific artist-activist collective Arts in Action LA. Ian now lives in Queens, New York, near the old Steinway piano factory.
